What’s a Tweetup??
A tweetup (Twitter speak for “meet up”) is an informal social gathering of people suffering from the same social media addiction. These events are normally held at someplace in the real world that serves adult beverages. In ancient, pre-Twitter times (2007) similar events were referred to as “happy hours”. In the olden days, these “happy hours” were actually attended by “people” as opposed the “tweeple” or “tweeps” who attend tweetups. Tweeps of course is short for “peeps” (as in “my peeps”) which is urban slang for people. So basically, tweeps is a slang word for a slang word. Confused yet?
We have had several well attended tweetups in Southwest Florida so far this year and currently have one planned on May 29th at Blu Sushi on McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers. Detailed information and a registration form can be found at this Eventbright link. If you’d like to host or organize a tweetup, you can contact our club’s social chairperson on Twitter (of course) at @FloridaTweeup.
